Here Lies Love Broadway NYC Tickets

Historical and Conceptual Foundation

The seeds of “Here Lies Love” were sown in the fertile creative grounds of musical mavericks, David Byrne and Fatboy Slim. Their collaboration birthed a concept album, a musical oeuvre that delved into the life of Imelda Marcos, echoing her political saga through beats that resonated with the rhythm of disco-pop. The title, “Here Lies Love,” reflects not merely a phrase, but a deeper quest into the heart of a historical figure, whose life was as melodious as it was melancholic.🎵

Here Lies Love

The album wasn’t just a compilation of tracks; it was a narrative waiting to leap off the vinyl grooves and onto the theatrical stage. But how does a concept album transition into a pulsating Broadway spectacle? The answer lay in the hands of a group of theatrical visionaries who saw in “Here Lies Love” a rhythmic narrative awaiting a larger canvas.

The voyage from the audio realm to the theatrical domain began with David Byrne showcasing the music as a song cycle at various prestigious platforms including the Adelaide Bank Festival of Arts in Australia in 2006 and at Carnegie Hall in 2007. This was a mere prelude to the larger theatrical narrative that was brewing. The musical narrative found its footing at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art’s Hunter Center for Performing Arts from June 2012, where it was presented in a co-production between MASS MoCA, the Williamstown Theatre Festival, and The Public Theater.

The essence of “Here Lies Love” was embraced and emboldened under the direction of Alex Timbers, who, along with a creative team that included David Korins as set designer and Annie-B Parson as choreographer, nurtured the narrative from a concept album to a stage-ready spectacle. It was here that the colorful characters of the musical began to take theatrical shape, imbued with a choreography that mirrored the disco-pop essence of the original album.

The jump from album to stage was not just a leap; it was a rhythmic dance into the theatrical realm, where the music of “Here Lies Love” found a new heartbeat, a new stage, and a new narrative choreography ready to enchant Broadway audiences. The lyrical narrative was ready to intertwine with theatrical choreography, setting the stage for a musical that was as rich in historical resonance as it was in rhythmic reverberations.

Theatrical and Musical Elements

Embarking on the rhythmic voyage that “Here Lies Love” offers is akin to diving into a sea of vibrant musical and theatrical elements, where every beat tells a story and every movement paints a picture. At the heart of this immersive narrative is a disco pop musical style that doesn’t just stay on stage, it envelops the audience in a lively embrace. The ingenious choreography by Annie-B Parson is a tale told in dance, where each step, each swirl is a word in the rhythmic language narrating Imelda Marcos’ life.

The disco-pop genre is more than a musical style in “Here Lies Love”; it’s a narrative device. The beat of the disco resonates with the heartbeat of a bygone era, echoing the highs and lows, the rises and falls of Imelda Marcos’ life. The choreography is not just a visual delight; it’s a narrative thread that weaves through the fabric of history, twirling around the characters, and pulling the audience into a dance with the past.

The musical doesn’t just stop at enrapturing auditory senses; it beckons the audience into a visual and spatial narrative with its innovative staging at the Broadway Theatre. The theatre undergoes an “astonishing transformation” into Club Millennium, a realm where the audience is not merely a spectator but a participant in the narrative. Whether you sway to the rhythm in traditional seats or groove on the dance floor, you’re in for a rhythmic rendezvous with history.

This isn’t your standard seating arrangement nor a typical theatrical presentation. The essence of “Here Lies Love” lies in breaking the traditional theatrical mold, offering an immersive experience that’s as unique as the story it tells. The staging embodies the spirit of disco, creating a space where the past and the present dance to the rhythm of “Here Lies Love.” It’s a bold testament to the innovative essence of Broadway, constantly pushing the boundaries of traditional theatre to offer experiences that are not just watched, but lived.

The Broadway Theatre isn’t just a venue; it’s a time machine with a disco ball, where each performance is a journey back in time, wrapped in a disco beat. The innovative staging is not just a feast for the eyes; it’s a rhythmic invitation to step into the shoes of history, to feel the pulse of the past as you groove to the beat of “Here Lies Love.” It’s where the echoes of history meet the beats of disco, crafting a theatrical experience that’s as emotionally resonant as it is rhythmically vibrant.

Here Lies Love Musical

Production and Direction

The voyage of “Here Lies Love” from a conceptual album to a pulsating stage phenomenon can be likened to a ship navigating through the rhythmic waves of creativity, with Alex Timbers at the helm as its seasoned captain. His role in developing and directing the musical has been nothing short of being the compass guiding the narrative ship through uncharted theatrical waters. Under his direction, the narrative of Imelda Marcos didn’t just find a voice; it found a heartbeat that echoed through the corridors of the Broadway Theatre.🎭

Alex Timbers’ visionary direction didn’t just breathe life into “Here Lies Love”; it orchestrated a rhythmic narrative that resonated with every beat of the disco pop music. His ability to meld historical narrative with pulsating choreography created a theatrical tapestry that’s as rich in historical narrative as it is in musical vibrancy. The synergy between the musical notes and the historical notes was meticulously orchestrated under Timbers’ adept direction, ensuring that the audience didn’t just watch history unfold but felt the rhythm of the times gone by.

But even a seasoned captain needs a robust crew to navigate the vast seas of theatrical creativity. The production of “Here Lies Love” saw the congregation of notable individuals and teams, who brought their unique skills to the table, enriching the musical with a plethora of creative flavors. The production names resonate with the same rhythm as the musical itself: Hal Luftig, Kevin Connor, Patrick Catullo, and a host of others who contributed to the spectacle that “Here Lies Love” came to be.

Across different stagings, from its early presentations to its Broadway rendition, the collaborative efforts of various production teams have been the wind in the sails of “Here Lies Love.” Each staging saw the amalgamation of creative minds who contributed to refining the narrative, enhancing the choreography, and enriching the musical ambiance. The result is a finely tuned theatrical narrative that doesn’t just tell a story but engages the audience in a rhythmic dialogue with history.

Through the ebbs and flows of the production journey, “Here Lies Love” emerged as a testament to collaborative creativity, where the sum of the parts created a musical narrative that’s as engaging as it is enlightening. The harmonious collaboration between direction and production has sculpted “Here Lies Love” into a Broadway spectacle that pulses with the beat of creativity, resonating through time and musical notes.

My visit here was a while back. When you enter the building you feel right away you have entered a beautiful place. The interior is absolutely lovely. I just hanged out a while in the lobby, watching people and enjoying the scenery. Staff were all very friendly. The venue itself where the show took place also looked great. Views of the show were great, even further down in the back. The seats they had were outdated, small and uncomfortable. And no legroom. I heard this complaint also around me, also from average people, even planes have way more legroom, no joke. So even though i enjoyed the show and visit here, it was an uncomfortable experience.

I came by with friends to watch The Great Gatsby. We had brought tickets beforehand so we just had to scan them to get in. The entrance was quite fancy with a golden staircase and chandeliers. The theatre is quite large with multiple entry points. The seats are allocated and there are ushers which can help you to your seat. There is a bar on the first floor with drinks and snacks. There are also people in the theatre who come by for snack and drinks too.It was a nice experience. The theatre was comfortable and the show was very entertaining. There was also wifi. It was a nice experience for some evening entertainment.

Beautiful theater. Surprisingly comfort seats. Staff were a little overzealous when catching someone with a cell phone. (This particular night at least 3 people. ) I understand they don't want people filming the show. However, VERY distracting for the rest of us to have to deal with flashlights being trained on audience members and ushers stage whispering threats of being kicked out. Otherwise, staff was great. Bathrooms efficient and clean. Lovely decor.

Gorgeous theater, and one of the bigger ones in the NYC Theater district, though if you're tall, your knees will be buried in the seat in front of you.Got to catch one of Jeremy Jordan's final performances in The Great Gatsby, and the entire cast did not disappoint. THIS is musical theater spectacle at its finest. Big voices, big numbers, and a big stage. Lots of restrooms at this theater, as well. Exits clearly marked.

Amazing experience. This was my first Broadway show and we throughly enjoyed the experience. My daughter and I loved the puppets and sons loved the added humor. Even my 6 year old was able to sit through the whole play and enjoy it. The visuals were stunning and the singing was awesome.I would recommend this play as a first experience and for kids. It’s a great experience for the whole family.

First time in this theater--I couldn't believe how big the stage was compared to other Broadway theaters I've been to! They actually drove a car across as part of a scene--a real one, not a small or prop car.Reason for 4★ and not five:I do wish the seats/rows were angled up more. The row in front of us was exactly on the same level, so the tall person in front of me pretty much blocked my view. I did a lot of leaning side to side to see the whole scene. My daughter sitting next to me could see in between people, until the girl in front of her leaned her head on her partner's shoulder and then my daughter had to lean sideways to see. I've been in other, smaller theaters in less expensive seats that had better sight lines because the seating was built at more of an angle.Overall, though, still a pretty good experience.

The Broadway Thetre never disappoints. We had the chance to see The Great Gatsby, which was an amazing show! The cast did so well and really brought the story to life. It was also so neat to see it in New York since the story is based there as well. There's so much character in New York, and the Back to The Future was playing across the street. If you are able to make it out, Wicked is also showing at the Gershwin Theatre. In all, there's plenty to see, and I highly recommend seeing The Great Gatsby on Broadway!

Wonderful theatre with beautiful interior. I watched The Great Gatsby show and it was amazing. The stage background change, the music, players, and the storyline were perfect. I ordered the tickets from Today Tix and the checking was smooth. There were plenty restrooms and water tap. U could buy some merchandise on the ground floor, and viewers could buy cocktails on the basement & basement. The stewards were very helpful to show u the seats.Would love to come back to this theatre and enjoy other plays.

Wonderful experience at Broadway Theatre. We saw Great Gatsby. 11/10, fantastic performance. Beautiful theatre, well maintained but still feels like that old world vibe. The show was better than expected. The actors were TOP notch. I would happily return and highly recommend! My only complaints are 1. letting people in VERY late, like 20-30 minutes late and it’s very distracting. There should be a limit. The rest of us arrive on time so as to not disturb the show. and 2. There was a strange metallic clanking sound. Like pipes. It really ruined the vibe at quiet parts. It’s an old theatre, so seems like a maintenance issue.Otherwise, perfect experience.

The rows of chairs have very little leg room, so if you’re tall I’d suggest an aisle seat. Not much else to say other than amazing, it’s such a nice classic looking theater, like the most basic possible Broadway theater (fits the name I guess lol) like all red and gold. And it’s really roomy I will say that the seats are really comfortable— obviously I was in the front, so I can’t confirm but it looked like it would also be a good view even from the back of the mezzanine. Small as in there’s not a huge amount of seats (I think), and also big as in comfortable and roomy and the stage is beautiful. I’m extremely happy that I got to see THIS show here, too :)Also, if you’re someone who is interested, they do actually do box seats here.

Attending a Broadway show with my spouse was an unforgettable experience. It was a must-do for me, and I can confidently say it was one of the most beautiful visual spectacles I've ever witnessed, if not the best. We chose "Harry Potter," and it exceeded all our expectations. Everything about it was perfect. They don't allow any photography during the show, and I completely understand why; some things should remain a mystery. The theater was packed, but it was worth the wait. If you plan to get tickets, you should act fast because they sell out quickly. If you're in New York, this experience is a must-try.Attending a Broadway show is more than just watching a performance; it's immersing yourself in the heart of New York's entertainment scene. The energy inside the theater is palpable, and as the lights dim and the curtain rises, you're transported to a different world."Harry Potter" on Broadway was a magical journey from start to finish. The set design, costumes, and special effects were stunning, creating an enchanting atmosphere. The actors were incredibly talented, bringing the beloved characters to life with their performances. The story unfolded before our eyes, captivating us from the first scene to the last. Even though we couldn't take photos, the memories we created are etched in our minds forever. One thing I appreciated was the attention to detail in every aspect of the production. From the elaborate stage sets to the intricate choreography, every element contributed to the overall experience.Despite the crowded theater, we felt like we were part of something special. The sense of camaraderie among the audience added to the excitement of the evening.Overall, our Broadway experience was nothing short of magical. It's an experience I highly recommend to anyone visiting New York City.

Watched Here Lies Love and enjoyed it! Great location easy to find and stage and effects were awesome. One quip is seats tight in rear mezzanine and no cup holders for drinks bought there which they allowed.

Very nice theater. We enjoyed Here Lies Love at this venue. We had a lot of fun learning more about the history of the Philippines and Imelda Marcos. It was great to see Leah Salonga sing on Broadway again. I'm not sure I understand where they got the title of the musical from.

Broadway Theater is right on Broadway accessible by E train to 7th Ave and 53rd Street. 1 short Block away. If driving by car you will need to use a paid parking lot within the area. No street parking is available. This is a spacious modern theatre. Went to see "Here lies love" based around Imelda Marcos. Every seat is great. Orchestra area is participating standing area only. You will interact directly with the actors and move throughout the show. There are stadium size monitors and stage set ups throughout the theatre. I loved the stage effects! I was completely content in the Mezzanine area. I sat in row N seat 102.
